The No More dEUS tour

I was at the two Dutch gigs, and the Rotterdam one was really perfect. The guys were in great shape. So what is a dEUS concert like in 2002 ?

Line-up
- Tom Barman : vocals, acoustic & electric guitar
- Klaas Janzoons : violin & synths
- Jules De Borgher : drums
- Danny Mommens : bass & background vocals
- Craig Ward : electric guitar & vocals
- Tim Vanhamel : electric guitar, synths & background vocals
- the Sissy Spacek Singers (Esme Bos, Angelique Wilkie, Sian Bolland & Nicole "Jojotte" Letuppe) : background vocals

Songs played
Via, Suds & Soda, Hotellounge (new version), W.C.S. (new version), Little Ghost (Sissy Spacek acapella) Theme From Turnpike (new ending), Little Arithmetics, Roses, Fell Off The Floor Man, Serpentine, Instant Street, Sister Dew, Put The Freaks Up Front, The Magic Hour, Magdalena, Everybody's Weird, Nothing Really Ends, If You Don't Get What You Want (new song)

They play really tight, it's technically close to perfection, really under control. They use video projections (made by VJ California) when there's room for it in the concert venue.

Both Craig & Klaas are overweight.

Rudy goes solo

Rudy Trouv - Quiet Songs 1999-2002Rudy Trouvé's first solo album has just been released, it's called "Quiet Songs 1999-2002". It contains 20 songs and guests include Elko Blijweert & Daan Stuyven (Dead Man Ray), Stef Kamil Carlens & Aarich Jespers (Zita Swoon) + Karel de Bakker, Sigrid Van Rosendaal, Aarich Jespers, Dimitri Daggelinck, Leon Jespers & Michiel Thys. Some track titles are outright funny : "ah look! how come you so good and this one is so bad", "expensive piano recorded on cheap equipment", "oh! that fireworks". It's on Heavenhotel and you can order it via their website.

ISufferRock.com goes official!

the whole new dEUS websiteJust a few minutes ago the new official dEUS website was unveiled! It's a redesign of Arthur's ISufferRock.com, looks just like the artwork of the No More Video DVD. Kevin Moens & Arthur decided to get together to offer us the best dEUS experience ever, and they're likely to succeed ! Their first shot is [re-edited at 18:27] no less than an exclusive interview with Tom, recorded when they played a secret try-out gig at the Jan Fabre Theatre in Borgerhout (Antwerp) on Thursday, during which dEUS debuted a whole new song called If You Don't Get What You Want ("it rocks" says Kevin Moens).

www.deus.be is also the official site for Tom's Magnus, his "techno/elektro/jazz/blues" project with CJ Bolland & Peter Vermeersch, and for Anyway The Wind Blows, which is apparently the final title of his film, which he'll start making in July. The movie already has its own domain name www.anywaythewindblows.com.

And in an interview to Portugal's Y-Público, Klaas said that there'll be a new album in 2003, as both Danny & Tom previously said, and he also said that the summer gigs would have "huge production" with dancers [thx to Carolina Sismeiro]

Private try-out

Quinten (his website, Rudy's Great Ideas, is currently unavailable) reported yesterday on the dML that on Thursday dEUS played a private try-out gig in front of a small audience somewhere in Antwerp. He heard if from a Flemish radio (StuBru?).

There's a whole new dEUS website online !!!!! Check www.deus.be NOW !

Great news from Portugal

Polido reports on the dML that Julle De Borgher gave an interview to a Portuguese radio station. He said that the band would play "old stuff revisited", which is fanstastic news if they choose the right stuff (ooooh Gimme The Heat please), but also a NEW SONG written during the rehearsals for the summer gigs ! dEUS are playing tomorrow in Lisboa.

Official update

The official dEUS siteI don't know exactly when the official dEUS site was updated, but it now gives (scarce) information about the latest releases and the forthcoming mini tour. Webmaster Dirk De Bock repurchased the domain name theidealcrash.com, which had expired a few months ago and been used by a porn portal. That's good news for the band's image. There's one tidbit I really love on the May 2002 news item: it says "More random news can be had on either Hotellounge or I Suffer Rock", looks like my site's got some kind of official status now. Woohoo Arthur we rock ;-)

And there's two days left till the dEUS summer blitz kicks off ! They'll rock Lisboa's Coliseu on Saturday, Porto on Sunday, then head North to Rotterdam on Tuesday, kick some ass in Amsterdam the day after, then back to good ole Belgium where they'll set Werchter to flames. That's next Friday and you can still grab tickets, but the other dates are all sold out.

Tom with orchestra

Steven Van Impe reported yesterday on the dML that Tom Barman will play with the Royal Philharmonia Orchestra of
Flanders
(led by Lucas Vis) on November 17 (20:30) at the Concertgebouw in Brugge. They'll do symphonic versions of dEUS and other songs. This event is part of the Aquarius Festival Day.

Here's the official description of the event (from the Brugge 2002 website) :

AQUARIUS spreads its ideas in many different ways. Every year it organizes a festival day - in 2002 at the Concertgebouw Brugge - when well-known musicians from a variety of backgrounds and with diverse musical tastes come face to face with young talent in workshops and concerts. A particularly stimulating experience for the young, and often a nice way for the musicians to rediscover the essence of their music-making.

Tickets : Brugges 2002 @ +32.70.22.33.02.

And here's a tidbit for SOULWAX fans: they've just completed a bootleg mix of Kylie Minogue's Outta My Head with an original, guitar-heavy instrumental of their own making. It's amazing, it's my favourite track this week, and it's what comes closest to a new Soulwax song - the music is definitely new Soulwax stuff. Download it here, thanks to the brilliant Boom Selection website.
