Une interview de Tom

Bon, c'est pas vraiment une nouvelle, mais ça me permet d'écrire en français (well, it's MY site, so it's no use complaining).

Evil Empire

Really funny story. A week ago or so, there was a special evening called "Euro Flandria" at the Cologne/Köln Popkomm Festival. Bands on the bill included Das Pop, Mauro, Buscemi & Dead Man Ray. Martin & Alison (the nice couple behind www.moid.be) went to the event, and wrote a cool little report for the dML. Mauro apparently had technical problems (dead microphones) and he started improvising a solo acoustic set. And here's what he did :

After that he asked the crowd if they wanted to hear some real Belgian music, and he played what sounded like a nursery rhyme in Dutch! Someone else suggested For the Roses! He laughed and said that was too hard to play, How about Suds& Soda - someone else started singing Friday, Friday and Mauro started playing Suds and Soda - then he quickly stopped and said howabout Hotellounge? Well we all cheered for that one and he started playing the introduction, got just up to the first verse.... and the power came back on!! so he stopped and went back to finish off the rest of his set back in 'normal' Mauro style. We think Mauro should do an acoustic set, he's definitely at his best that way.

Wish I'd been there.

Someone's gonna be real' happy

I'll keep telling you this until you finally understand : Arthur's dEUS site is fantastic (well, not everything, but it's definitely #1 on news). He's just added a crispy layer to its fantasticness : the very first dEUS competition on the World Wide Web ! You can win the limited picture disc 7" vynil version of Little Arithmetics by answering four simple questions (one every week till Sept 16). The answer to question 1 can be found here as well. Ready ? Go !

A green Tom, the Beefheart one

A few months ago, there was an exhibition called Rockin' Art in St Niklaas, revolving around Captain Beefheart. This multidisciplinary artistic event featured live music, painting exhibitions, video ... Tom was on the bill, he performed a DJ set using Beefheart music. And I didn't write a single line about it on this site cause, as said earlier, I'm a lazy webmaster.

Rockin' Art will revive on September 7 in Diepenheim, in the Netherlands. Tom will be there. For more info, visit ... uh ... yeah, you've probably guessed it, ISufferRock. Follow the "dEUS news" link.

DEVS MAGNVS EST

Unfortunately, I couldn't listen to last Sunday's Marquee program with Tom Barman on Studio Brussel. But Arthur from ISufferRock did, so he summarized the action and also added the whole interview to his audio section.

My summary of his summary : Tom said that dEUS are not splitting, which is good news. Another good piece of news : his project with CJ Bolland & Peter Vermeersch is called Magnus and an album will be released in 2002. They've been working on 12 new songs.
