10/02/2001 - Rock et cetera, Deutschlandfunk

A program called "Große Stars für ein kleines Land - Rockmusik aus Belgien" (big stars for a small country - rockmusic from Belgium) about dEUS, Novastar, Zita Swoon, K's Choice, Soulwax ... Dirk Houbrechts reporting :

- Tom Barman "the thing in common of all the band from the Belgian scene is perhaps being open to all kinds of influences, and to look on them with a certain surrealism"

- Frank van der Linden about him "discovering" dEUS at the Rock Rally : "in those days you couldn't sell dEUS to any record company, because they were too chaotic. But only a few months after, every record company wanted to have it's own dEUS"

- Tom again "deus was like a sort of cork that came off a bottle. But it is not correct to think that all the bands after us came about because of dEUS. We just gave them a bit of confidence"

- Stef Kamil :"we lived in one house, we made music all the time. I don't know what else to say about it, it was chaotic but beautiful."

- Joost Zweegers of Novastar "I didn't think too much of dEUS, until i once saw a show where Tom Barman & Stef Kamil Carlens played a few encores, just the two of them on piano & guitar. There has never been and probably will never be a better Belgian band than dEUS. But it was not a typical Belgian thing. It was just the magic that happens when two individuals meet. Perhaps the comparison is a bit off, but it was like the magic that Paul McCartney & John Lennon had in the Beatles"

- Tom Barman "I am glad there a still good bands about, but they are a bit "nice", you know. Novastar, Arid ... they don't have the sense of adventure like Soulwax, Zita Swoon, Rudy Trouvé ... us ... Novastar is just Crowded House with more guitars, K's Choice is Skunk Anansie or whatever ... but nothing new. I think it's very positive that they are here, but I want something more from art ... Like Beck manages to do. The next album of dEUS, for 2002, will be a more pop thing. It must be an album you can dance to and have a party with."

- Tom Barman "I earn my money with DJ'ing now! Strange, not. Because I'm not a DJ. People think that because we take a year off, this means we can afford that. But they don't have a clue. When we're touring with dEUS, we can live from it. But now ... But we don't want to make a record because we need money. It has to mean something"

19/08/2000 - Plankenkoorts, Canvas - Dranouter festival

Tom's solo concert at Dranouter Folk Festival on 4 August. They showed Serpentine (in duet with Belgian singer Axelle Red) and 2:45 AM, an Elliot Smith song.

24/01/2000 - Goedele, Belgian TV (?) - Danny about sex

A "tabloid talk show", that week about sexual habits. Danny was invited and was as cool as ever, saying (among other disgusting things) that 69 is his favourite sex position, and that he did have sex with fans when dEUS were on tour. But then, he complained that Tom always gets the best-looking girls ;-)

06/06/1999 - Rockpalast, WDR - broadcasting of a gig

On 4 April, dEUS played at the "Oster Rocknacht" festival at the Phillips Hall in Dusseldorf. Rockpalast, a programme on German WDR TV, will be broadcasting the whole gig on 6 June.

21/04/1999 - Interview with Tom and Craig on a TV program called NO DISCO on an Irish TV - report by Christopher Monks

Nothing much new said......There was one question the interviewer asked which went down well. She said something allong the lines of "Does it dissapoint you that you haven't got the money to go along with the critically acclaimed albums". Tom's response was "That's a good question", whereas Craig went on to elaborate. He talked about how it was strange but not too strange. He gave an example of Mercury Rev and the album Deserter's Songs and how that their previous albums got good reviews but didn't get the money or the fame, and that album came out. It got all brilliant reviews, "five star" was the way he put it, and how they were plastered on every music mag. He then went on to say that dEUS have always had good reviews but have never got the main "five star must buy" review. And that's about as much as I can remember.... All the best.

21/04/1999 - Something about dEUS on a program called NBC GIGA on a German TV - report by Eva

Today I watched NBC GIGA (a 5-hour show about the Internet, Games, Stars, Sport,...) and finally after weeks of saying: "SHOW SOMETHING ABOUT dEUS!!!" they showed something. And not because I asked them to, no because my friend Marco (JarlathDrake) wrote it on a message board and someone else (MunichGirl) said she wanted it too. So, today Emily (one of moderators) showed The Ideal Crash - Website on T.V. and they even put a link to the page on their homepage and she played "The Ideal Crash" for some seconds. This was the first time in my whole life that I screamed because of something showed on TV. They just made me so happy!!!!!!

19/04/1999 - Tom on Canvas' "Spraakmakers" (B)

Tom talked about his life and dEUS. These pictures were published on The Ideal Website.

01/03/1999 - dEUS host TMF's Alter8 show

Report by Frank van der Linden

Yeah, the TMF program Alter 8 was presented from Ronda by Stefan De Waele, Tom Barman and Klaas Janzoons. They were joking around, doing several flemish accents, imitating abelgian politician, etc. Also, Klaas could be seen ending the program in Spanish. Apart from that, it wasn't very interesting. The "Finger Crookie" video by Bjork, err, Bloem de Ligny was played twice (!), I think the first time it should have been "Ik ben aanwezig" by Gorki. Only Hotellounge was played. Figures. The band whose members are presenting the show only get one video played, but 2 videos were shown of K's Choice. Uh-huh. Not even Instant Street.

Report by Dirk De Bock

I most enjoyed the Jeff Buckley clip and the comments of Tommie there. I still wonder who did the voice impersonation of Tobback, was that Tommie ?

??/03/1999 - Tom interviewed on Cucamonga (???)

Report by Martijn van Santen

In a radio interview with Cucamonga the interviewer called TIC a real 'headphones album'. Toms didn't like that idea, and also said: "i hope it also sounds good thru speakers. Preferably as loud as possible." (Ik hoop ook dat ze goed klinkt uit speakers. En liefst zo luid mogenlijk)

The Ideal crash will be a "make-it or break-it" album. If this one doesn't sell they loose the contract will Island. Tom said that if that's the case he will feel sorry about it, but he doesn't think it will be a big problem because he's convinced they'll find another (maybe smaller) lable that wants them. He said that Island though 'In A bar' was an 'unsellable album'. He also said that the next album will be recorded in one months time, instead of the 8 months they spend recording this one.
