The
show in Hamburg on Tuesday: dEUS entered the stage at 21.30
I think and after a few seconds I could sense that it was
going to be a great evening. I saw them at 2 clubshows in
April and those gigs were really different from the gig they
gave at the Markthalle (which is a really nice venue!) in
Hamburg! Their general mood seemed to be fantastic and it
was! When he had walked in Tom said "The last time we
were here in Hamburg it was 45 degrees", and before he
even said it everybody seemed to know he was talking bout
the HURRICANE festival in June. I was proud to be one of those
who knew what EXACTLY he was talking about (cause they played
a great show there). They started off with "Instant Street"
and it sounded really fresh somehow. Tom was smiling all the
time and Craig seemed to be enjoying the whole thing ,too.
The performance in general was riveting to me, but to be honest:
the 1st song I really really enjoyed was "SAM". Great that
they played it - apart from the usual stuff. "Magdalena" was
unbelievably beautiful as it always is. "Let´s see.." sounded
really energetic to me ears, I liked it a lot. A lot of power
to it. Craig again sang those lines from Built To Spill("I
wanna see the movies of my dreams") in the end of "Hotellounge",just
as he did at Beach Rock. Man, it sounded so good. Made me
shake. "Freaks" unfortunately again didn´t sound very good.
It loses some of its energy when they play it live . They
need more (good)voices there, I guess. I could only guess
Tim was singing by looking at him , seeing his lips move.
A pity. How about 2 Craigs there? He sang really beautifully
on the "Magic Hour" which nevertheless seemed to be faaaaaaaaaaaaaading
as they left the stage for the 1st time. Of course Klaas returned,
starting off "Turnpike" and doing his typical kind of dance.
I love this song! Some woman jumped on stage and did a strange
kind of dance at Craig´s feet and later around the guys. Tom
seemed to enjoy it, while Tim was doing amusingly weird things
with his guitar, that I can´t describe. But you know what
I mean. On top of that dANNY walked in. He wore a skirt again
and sunglasses. He came in like gOD himself, dancing like
only a ´cool cool rocket´ does. So slowly. I had a great laugh
at all this. Later he even played the bass while standing
in the crowd. Also there were those lines from the Prodigy
again ("No no good... I don´t need nobody.."), sung
by Tom.. "Fell off the floor" continued that mood. Tom´s dancing
& gestures got weirder and weirder. Some great minutes passed
by and they left again. Klaas returned first again and they
played "WCS". I enjoyed it especially when Tom said "Are
you listening you fool...?" and all the people shouted
back "YOU MAGNIFICENT LIAR!!" I was taken by surprise.
A lot of people really wanted to hear "Eisbär" but they played
the greatest version of "Everybody´s weird" ever with a special
guitar-disaster. Marvellous! Unfortunately they didn´t return
for some more songs. I guess they are very exhausted, which
was proved the next day in Halle on wednesday: (to
be continued)
